Finding a reliable, attractive dress watch for the price of a fast-food meal is a gamble. After my previous experiences with ultra-budget Chinese timepieces, my expectations were low. However, the Chronus CH0801 and CH0804 (aka CH3004, CH2801?) models have proven to be a pleasant surprise.

Design & Build Quality
Regarding the build, these watches are undeniably lightweight at 54g. However, they manage to avoid the toy-like sensation typical of ultra-budget alternatives. While you won’t find the density of a high-end stainless steel piece here, they feel reasonably solid and well-put-together compared to my previous experiences in this price bracket.
The sunburst dial is the star of the show. It catches the light beautifully, though the colours could benefit from a little more saturation. A notable quirk for the eagle-eyed: the kerning on the brand name is slightly off, making it look like “Chron OS”—a fun accidental “tech” Easter egg for the nerds among us.
The “Cyclops” (Date Magnifier): The watch features a date lens at the 3 o’clock position. While it does its job, it is a polarising design choice. Alignment is decent, though your mileage may vary depending on the specific unit you receive.

Performance & Accuracy
Setting the time feels tactile enough, though the crown is sensitive; it’s easy to accidentally jump the minute hand when pushing the crown back in.
- Acoustics: The quartz movement is impressively quiet. You won’t hear it ticking from your nightstand.
- Accuracy: After extended testing (using pyTimeGrapher), I was amazed by the precision of these units. They showed a variance of approximately -1 s/day. For a budget quartz at this price point, that is truly phenomenal performance.
- Lume: It exists! This was unexpected at this price point. However, don’t expect it to last through a movie; it fades significantly within 60 seconds.

The “Strap” Situation
The watches come on “Genuine Leather” stamped straps. In reality, they feel heavily “plasticized” and stiff out of the box. While they look the part for a formal event, I have doubts about their long-term durability. Given the 40mm case size, these would be prime candidates for a quick aftermarket strap upgrade.
Pros and Cons
The Good
- Incredible Value: At roughly €13, it punches well above its weight.
- Aesthetics: The sunburst dial and 40mm proportions look “right” on most wrists.
- Finishing: Surprisingly clean with no sharp edges or obvious machining flaws.
The Bad
- Inconsistent QC: Like many budget quartz watches, the second hand rarely hits the markers perfectly (one unit was better than the other in this regard).
- Weak Lume: Yet any lume at all is a bonus at this price point.
- Uncertain Strap: Exact material / longevity uncertain
Final Verdict
The Chronus CH0801/04 is a classic “clothing brand” alternative. It looks and feels similar to watches you’d find in a department store for €50–€80. If you need a handsome piece for a wedding or a specific suit and don’t want to break the bank, this is a highly capable “disposable” dress watch that looks far more expensive than it is.
